Revisiting variable-value population principles

چکیده
Abstract We examine a general class of variable-value population principles. Our particular focus is on the extent to which such principles can avoid repugnant and sadistic conclusions. show that if mild limit property imposed, avoidance conclusion implies conclusion. This result generalizes earlier observations by showing they apply substantially larger second theorem states that, under property, axiom mere addition also conflicts with consequence similar observation appears in literature.

Revisiting M-Tree Building Principles
The M-tree is a dynamic data structure designed to index metric datasets. In this paper we introduce two dynamic techniques of building the M-tree. The first one incorporates a multi-way object insertion while the second one exploits the generalized slim-down algorithm. Usage of these techniques or even combination of them significantly increases the querying performance of the M-tree. We also ...
متن کاملRevisiting R-Tree Construction Principles
Spatial indexing is a well researched field that benefited computer science with many outstanding results. Our effort in this paper can be seen as revisiting some outstanding contributions to spatial indexing, questioning some paradigms, and designing an access method with globally improved performance characteristics. In particular, we argue that dynamic R-tree construction is a typical cluste...
متن کاملRevisiting Value Prediction
Value prediction was proposed in the mid 90’s to enhance the performance of highend microprocessors. Unfortunately, to the best of our knowledge, there are no Value Prediction implementations available on the market. Moreover, the research on Value Prediction techniques almost vanished in the early 2000’s as it was more effective to increase the number of cores than to dedicate silicon to Value...
متن کاملBidirectional branch and bound for controlled variable selection: Part I. Principles and minimum singular value criterion
The minimum singular value (MSV) rule is a useful tool for selecting controlled variables (CVs) from the available measurements. However, the application of the MSV rule to large-scale problems is difficult, as all feasible measurement subsets need to be evaluated to find the optimal solution. In this paper, a new and efficient branch and bound (BAB) method for selection of CVs using the MSV ru...
متن کاملRevisiting stochastic off-policy action-value gradients
Off-policy stochastic actor-critic methods rely on approximating the stochastic policy gradient in order to derive an optimal policy. One may also derive the optimal policy by approximating the action-value gradient. The use of action-value gradients is desirable as policy improvement occurs along the direction of steepest ascent. This has been studied extensively within the context of natural ...
